You Can Help Fill the Table for Kids in MN

What would you do if you had to choose: pay for your cancer treatment or put food on the table for your family? For one Brooklyn Center family, that impossible choice became reality when a cancer diagnosis left Annie and Lee’s father unable to work. Facing both the physical toll of treatment and crushing weight of financial uncertainty, he connected with his kid’s school social worker who reminded him of Every Meal—our program that provides food bags to ensure children have nourishing meals to bridge the gap from Friday afternoon through Monday morning. That Friday, Annie and Lee came home with food in their backpacks. For their family, it isn’t just food—it’s stability during a very unstable time.

Their story isn’t unique. Many families struggle with having enough food on the weekend—especially when life takes an unexpected turn. This past school year, Every Meal served over 12,000 children weekly, distributing over 1.5 million meals that pushed our facility to capacity. With 1 in 4 Minnesota children facing food insecurity, the need far exceeds what we can provide. That’s why we launched the Setting the Table campaign to secure our full facility and help feed more children.
